Psychiatric and behavioral genetics
Marina Mitjans; Bru Cormand
Our research focuses on investigating the molecular mechanisms of major psychiatric disorders, particularly schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, as well as related behavioral traits such as social cognition and suicidal behavior.
We use genomic approaches such as genome-wide association studies (GWAS) and different post-GWAS analyses that are the state-of-the-art methodologies in the complex traits genomics field. Our research also includes the study of psychiatric conditions from an epigenetic perspective at the DNA methylation level. We develop our research under the continuum perspective of psychiatric disorders which understand mental health as the extreme side of the normal distribution of the expression of the trait in the general population.
